Gurjun Balsam Essential Oil – Dipterocarpus spp. – Malaysia
Gurjun Balsam is a great material in perfumery and also has uses in aromatherapy. In perfumery it imparts dried warm spice nuances, slightly woody at the beginning then evolves on balsam tones, slightly sweet licorice then spicy and guaiac wood and rounds any rough edges in a perfume. It is also a great fixative.
The gurjun is a tree that grows in the rain forests of Southeast Asia. Several types of gurjun are cultivated for their balsam. This oleoresin, produced after tapping the tree trunks, is widely used in varnishes and lacquers. Its olfactory notes are also useful in perfumery.
