Wild Opoponax Essential Oil – Somalia is an extraordinary natural perfumery material steam-distilled from the wild-harvested gum resin of Commiphora erythraea. The trees grow naturally in Somalia, where incisions in the trunk allow the aromatic gum to slowly emerge and harden into characteristic resinous tears before collection and distillation.
What makes this particular Opoponax so fascinating is its unexpected fruitiness. The first impression reveals something remarkably reminiscent of unripe green mango, surrounded by rich, sweet resin and warm balsamic depth. As it develops, woody, earthy and spicy facets emerge, with subtle animalic and incense-like undertones adding complexity. Opoponax is sometimes called sweet myrrh, but its character is distinctly different—warmer, sweeter and more balsamic than the sharper medicinal freshness associated with traditional myrrh.
