This first batch of Patchouli oil is hi-tech and is distilled using Molecular Distillation and come from Sulawesi in Indonesia and this is where the best Patchouli oil comes from.
Patchouli grows in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and across south east Asia including Indonesia. The name Patchouli comes from the Tamil word "patch" which means green and ilai which means leaf. It material has great benefits in perfumery and aromatherapy.
Patchouli essential oil is found in oriental bases, accompanied by rose notes, or in chypre accords. Patchouli brings out vetiver or oak moss notes and flowers, but also chocolate accords. According to my teacher, Patchouli can be added to any composition as it rounds off the perfumes really well. I think Patchouli completes an oriental perfume.
The leaves are dried before molecular distillation, a process to produce a very potent aroma.
